Formaldehyde Allergy Symptoms

The symptoms of a formaldehyde skin allergy can include:

  • Lesions at the site of contact with clothing.
  • Initially appears as a pruritic erythematous papulovesicular eruption which could gradually become chronic if not treated in a timely manner.
  • Presence of red, macerated skin on the waistband area. This rash can become secondarily infected with bacterial organisms in hot, humid environments.
  • Itching at the site of contact.
  • Less commonly, itching and tearing eyes and shortness of breath.

Victoria's Secret Bras may have caused Woman's Itching, Rash and Welts

Roberta Ritter has filed a class action lawsuit claiming that two Victoria's Secret bras she bought have caused her severe itching, rash and welts.

She noticed that the new bras were "Made in China"--as opposed to her old bras which were "Made in India".

The bras are suspected of containing formaldehyde, a chemical used to preserve fabrics, which may have caused the rash.
