Los Angeles, CA: (Aug-08-07) Jennifer Lopez brought a lawsuit against her first husband Ojani Noa, alleging that he breached a previously agreed on contract and requested arbitration. Arbitration is a legally binding settlement overseen by a retired judge or another person chosen to hear both sides. The suit stemmed from Ojani Noa's book, written by a ghost writer, but never published. The book claimed that Lopez had multiple affairs, including one with her third and current husband, Marc Anthony, when he was married to someone else. Noa had offered not to publish the book if the actress gave him $5 million, according to her suit. The arbitrator, Richard Chernick had awarded a permanent injunction preventing Noa, 31, from criticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging or causing disparagement to Lopez, and directing him to turn over to the actress or her lawyer all copies of materials related to the book.

In June 2006, Noa agreed to a preliminary injunction issued by a judge that also stopped him from disclosing personal information about their relationship for monetary gain. He also had agreed not to engage in such conduct as part of the settlement of a prior lawsuit. Noa recently breached that injunction by trying to publish the book. In a settlement reached during arbitration, Jennifer Lopez was awarded nearly $545,000. The award consists of $200,000 in compensatory damages for breach of the Lopez-Noa settlement agreement; nearly $300,000 in attorneys' fees and almost $48,000 in arbitration costs.
