Update

So I was very impressed by how calmly I handled the TT issue. I emailed the principal late Wednesday night, informing her in no uncertain terms that this new policy would not apply to my children and that it was inappropriate and unlawful. I was fully prepared to argue to the death if I encountered any resistance. But the principal called me at 7:15 T

I own Blackacre

Currently, I am reading about topics covered in first year real property. Fee simple subject to shifting executory limitations, that kind of thing. Its like studying for the bar exam again, except now it really matters that I get it right and there are no multiple choices. I spent an hour today combing through the first restatement of property. Athletic Force Majeure...

So, I?m working on a project for North Africa, and the other day, I emailed my counterpart in Algeria to say:Hey Dude,What?s up? I still need that stuff we talked about last week in order to proceed.Hugs & Kisses,AnaHe emailed back:Dude, Really sorry about that. We?re currently in a national security crisis right now. Egypt and Algeria had a footba

Life after Trial Prep

Trial Prep has been the bulk of my work since I started. We had like five trials scheduled through January, but now they're all gone. Either settled or rescheduled, or tried. So now what? Boss Dude has given me a few new cases to work on, and I'm starting to take appointments with new clients. Divorces, personal injury matters, and such. I'm signed up

Sorry for my absence

I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have been pretty busy.  Lately, I have been "Twittering Professionally" which means I post tweets about news in my field, and of things that are interesting to me as a lawyer.  So, Twitter is taking up a lot of time.  I have found a lot of professional contacts on Twitter, and really enjoy it.&nb

A Bit of Levity

The past couple posts have been, well, intense. To lighten to mood before finals (and tomorrow, for those of us in the know), here is a link to possibly the best dissent of all time. Now some of us feel that Chief Judge Kozinski is a great judge; others, the greatest. But we can certainly all agree that he is not controversial or otherwise abrasive. Fe

There?s a Map For That

Not too long ago, Verizon took aim at AT&T’s spotty 3G coverage with a clever add: As an AT&T customer who lives in one of the 10 most populous metros in the United States, I found it amusing because my coverage — even inside the perimeter — is fucking atrocious. There’s really no reason that, standing [...]

I'm a lawyer, but I play a doctor on TV

As most of my blog readers know, from the age of 10(ish) to 21, my life's dream was to be a doctor. I was pre-med in college and took all the required classes, including the dreaded organic chemistry which forever ruined my 4.0 GPA (and for which I will forever be bitter). I ended up in law school and am happy with the decision, but I remain fascinated

Trial Fail

I was in court this week for my first trial ever. I generally kill trials, just my very existence makes them not happen. Nine years in the legal profession, dozens and dozens of cases prepped for trial, witnesses subpoenaed, exhibits prepared, all ready to go, and all have been canceled. Whether it settled (or pleaded out) last-minute, or some catas

BHSA Rep Proposes Edley No Confidence Vote

In a week filled with good ideas, this might be the best one yet.You might know Dean Edley as the guy behind Boalt's rise in the rankings, the Summer Fellowship Program or the architect of the best LRAP program in the country. I guess one of the 1L BHSA reps was too busy reading memos because the representative in question apparently suggested the BHS

End of Lexis & WestLaw as We Know it?

Anyone who has taken a Lexis or WestLaw "cost-conscious" course knows that the services are an absolute rip off for clients. Charging $150 to click the search button? Isn't this the information age of technology?I remember having a conversation with the Lexis rep as a 2L where I pointed out that such monopoly pricing of otherwise public information w

Google Scholar Enables Search of Legal Opinions & Journals

Google has just added the capability to search legal opinions and journals through Google Scholar. (Click here for Google’s official announcement). Even though I have access to LexisNexis and Westlaw, I have been using Google Scholar extensively for a couple of days and find it very useful.

My Notes From the Strike

Hi. I'm new. You'll get used to me, I promise.I wanted to give you my notes from the strike:9:17am - Finally here. Seventeen minutes late, but that's ok, justice always waits. Other four protestors outside of Sproul Hall seem happy to see me. They're all students. Where are the workers we're saving? Where is the support?9:23am - Coffee run. A l

So. Freaking. Awesome.

You cannot possibly tell me this is not the most awesome thing you have seen all week. Unless you've seen live elephants. Which I have a soft spot for. Also: This blog does not condone the maltreatment of penguins, on account of the fact that you never rough up guys in tuxedos.

Pissed Off Mama Bear

TT had an accident at school today because the teacher wouldn't let her use the restroom when she asked. Now, I was horrified by the thought of this, but thought perhaps TT's account was skewed to her benefit. So I calmly emailed the teacher and asked her if TT's (haha, I just got the pun!) account was accurate. The teacher said yes, the principal ju
