So, I have been thinking of Alaska.
Posted on May 06, 2013So, I have been thinking of Alaska. A lot. I gather that it has been a long winter and there is still snow in Soldotna. Gross. THAT would have me going squirrely. Life continues on here. The building is driving me absolutely batshit crazy...
So, I'm running a little behind
Posted on April 18, 2013So, I'm running a little behind but happy birthday Kadee! 7 already. My, how the time has flown. I meant to write on your birthday but I've been sick. I just learned today that I have walking pneumonia. I've been getting bugged by everyone to see a doctor, so I did...
So, things are ok. I have been
Posted on March 28, 2013So, things are ok. I have been focusing on doing all the things in Spring that I could never do in Alaska in March. I have built an aquaponics system. This is three barrels. Fish is one. The fish waste water is pumped up and then feeds the plants...
So, really nothing has changed.
Posted on March 01, 2013So, really nothing has changed. The back of the office is nearing completion. Spring is approaching. I miss Alaska horribly each and every day. Only the fact that it is now March and I hated March in Alaska keeps me sane. I have some new aches and pains that are causing me some concern, but are probably stress related...
So, things are moving along.
Posted on January 23, 2013So, things are moving along. This private gig is sure different....Since writing last we have had our first Christmas back in California and I have moved into our office. The office, which was supposed to take 6 months from August is still at least 6 months out...
So, I think this is the longest
Posted on December 06, 2012So, I think this is the longest I have ever gone without posting. It just doesn't seem the same now that I am out of Alaska. But the point of this blog is to chronicle my life. And since I am now in California, I guess I have to suck it up...
So, for a lawyer just starting
Posted on October 26, 2012So, for a lawyer just starting a practice, I have been busier than I thought. The number of details and tasks in starting a new firm is pretty crazy. I think I could write a book about it. Of course, it isn't made any easier by the amount that Jeremy and I have decided to bite off...
So, www.adamsfietz.com is
Posted on October 08, 2012So, www.adamsfietz.com is alive! The last few weeks have been surreal. I have been busy every day but haven't practiced law. It has all been making plans and arrangements to practice. The office is coming along nicely, although is feels slow...
So, life continues. For
Posted on September 20, 2012So, life continues. For the most part, it has been great. My only real negative so far has been dealing with California DMV. Getting two new driver licenses and registering two cars cost over $2500! What a joke. It just goes back to my fundamental belief in life: I am happiest when the government leaves me alone...
So, the last wek has been crazy.
Posted on August 31, 2012So, the last wek has been crazy. Moving from Alaska to California is bad enough. But starting a new practice? Renovating a 100 year old building? All at once. It's nuts. But I found time to make some apple cider with the kids. Drive to the coast. Buy J a new car...
So, now that I have internet at
Posted on August 25, 2012So, now that I have internet at home, I thought I would chronicle the last few weeks of my life. First, let me give my impression of my new home. I am much happier than I thought I would be. The weather is not the oppressive and unyielding heat that I am used to in California...
So, a whole lot has happened.
Posted on August 21, 2012So, a whole lot has happened. Before it gets away from me I will just say that I had the most amazing trip to California. The new house is great. The new office will be beyond cool. I am SO busy right now. After 22 hours of solid car time, I got here about 6 this morning...
So. This is it. My last blog post
Posted on August 10, 2012So. This is it. My last blog post from the Great Land. I don't know what to say. The day has been filled with saying goodbye to good folks. I am heading off to the People's Republic of Kalifornia. The heat. The laws. The traffic and pollution...
So, in my final push to enjoy
Posted on August 07, 2012So, in my final push to enjoy Alaska, I have been halibut fishing. And spent a weekend on my favorite place...Tustumena lake of course. The wife and kids are already in California and I leave next Monday. I find myself racked with fear and uncertainty...
So, dipnetting. The usual
Posted on August 01, 2012So, dipnetting. The usual blood bath. I didn't take that many fish this year but it was still fun as hell. I can't believe I won't be able to do it next year. There's not much to say about it. I got to be on the Kenai river with good folks in gorgeous weather doing something amazing...
So, today is my eighth anniversary.
Posted on July 24, 2012So, today is my eighth anniversary. My, my time has flown. Otherwise the summer in Alaska grinds on with the usual. Brown bears in the yard. Fishing. Camping. The firm is coming along and the first prototype of the website is done...
So, Tustumena lake. I wasn't sure
Posted on July 07, 2012So, Tustumena lake. I wasn't sure I would ever see my favorite place ever again. As it turns out, one of the interns is local and his dad bought a boat he can use. I am not ashamed to say that when the boat came to the headwaters of the Kasilof river and the lake lay before us, I burst into tears...
So, happy Canada day!
Posted on July 02, 2012So, happy Canada day! And happy birthday to my wife. And me tomorrow. To celebrate we went to Kenai lake. Again. I think that will be our last time. But a buddy unexpectedly showed up with a boat and we got to tool around...
So, in my effort to wring every
Posted on June 24, 2012So, in my effort to wring every moment I can from Alaska, I took the family camping. It was one of the most glorious days I have ever had in Alaska. It must have been 75 degrees out. It was perfect. We paddled on the canoe and sat by the fire and did all the things that you do when you camp...
So, Sasha makes me smile. I can't
Posted on June 21, 2012So, Sasha makes me smile. I can't imagine someone cuter.
So, every day feels like a vise
Posted on June 19, 2012So, every day feels like a vise around my heart. The thought of leaving this magical place physically hurts me. Even though I hate the 'State', I love Alaska. I went fishing on the Russian River last night. Combat fishing. Swore I would never do it. But the intern wanted to go...
So, camping on Kenai lake. It's
Posted on June 11, 2012So, camping on Kenai lake. It's true that this is the same place that we went last time, but the lake is so huge, I just picked a different spot. This time it was the two summer interns who came along. We ate great food,I taught an intern to shoot, canoed, sluiced for gold and enjoyed a gorgeous weekend in Alaska...
So, I am giving notice tomorrow.
Posted on June 04, 2012So, I am giving notice tomorrow. I wasn't going to do it for a while. It turns out that I was trying to get rid of a dog on a Facebook group and a court clerk was a member of the group. Seems everyone knows now. So I will make it formal tomorrow...
So, camping on Kenai lake for
Posted on May 28, 2012So, camping on Kenai lake for the long weekend. It's a spot that I've been before but I wanted an easy trip. We camped with my investigator who brought 6 kids so I didn't want to experiment, despite my desire to camp somewhere new. We camped down the beach from the crowd (thank God) so it seemed like the lake was relatively ours...
So, today was hard. Kadee graduated
Posted on May 24, 2012So, today was hard. Kadee graduated from kindergarten today. It was hard for three reasons: first, as I was driving her to school I made the mistake of saying that "this was the last day I would be driving a kid to school in Alaska". Well Kadee got very upset...
So, it's not done yet but this
Posted on May 14, 2012So, it's not done yet but this is the prototype for our new firm logo. It still doesn't feel real that we are leaving. Tonight I was playing hide and seek with the two older girls. Despite the fact that we live in a 'subdivision' I was struck by something...
So, I've really bitten off a lot
Posted on May 08, 2012So, I've really bitten off a lot this time. Between wrapping up our life here and finding a place to live in Santa Rosa and starting the new firm and working and kids and selling this place....well whew! The list of things to do is huge. I am borrowing $40,000 from Wells Fargo and have cashed in the kids college funds...
So, here's to the commute in
Posted on May 01, 2012So, here's to the commute in Alaska. At least several times a week, the drive (or flight) to and/or from work takes my breath away. Pictures, of course, do no justice. I am lucky to have this time. One of my favorite sayings is "money is replaceable...
So, happy birthday AJ! 4
Posted on April 26, 2012So, happy birthday AJ! 4 already. God I love you. My only regret is that this will be your last birthday in Alaska. You won't remember this place. If you ever see me mention Alaska and just burst into tears, forgive me...
So, I haven't been blogging much.
Posted on April 24, 2012So, I haven't been blogging much. I'm sure it will fire back up soon. I have made a decision. And the decision will be implemented tomorrow. As usual, this is not public info so I hope I can trust my readers to wait for me to make it so. Tomorrow I am booking a ticket on the July 30 ferry to Bellingham...
